The Ultimate Guide to Dressing for Success: Conference Edition

I don’t know about you, but dressing for an occasion where you have to present professionally can turn into a whole event! This could be a job interview, your first day of work, or a conference.

The key to mastering this and ensuring that you make a great first impression is to just be yourself. Your personal style will always stand out the most so don’t be afraid to express that.

However, there are some ways that you can enhance your style and still show up with confidence and professionalism.

The 2022 Women of Project Management Conference attendees did just that! They showed up and showed out with so much style and enough confidence to work the room and make meaningful connections.

If you are attending the 2023 conference or any other professional event, here’s the ultimate guide to dressing for success.

Check to see if there is a dress code:

Please do this before just showing up with your Sunday’s best. There could be a theme or specific colors that are encouraged. Do this to ensure that you are in line with the event-specific guidelines.

This makes it so much more fun to plan your looks so you complement the room. This doesn’t mean you have to blend in like a chameleon; you can still jazz up your look and stand out by adding your personal touch.

Business casual is always a good idea:

If you just don’t care… I get it. For some of us, getting dressed and picking the right outfit is a sport. And for others, it’s just a necessary part of the day that doesn’t require much thought.

If you fall into the latter category, please note that it’s still important to show up looking your best.

And business casual is always a really good idea when attending professional events. I’d lean more toward business than casual if you really want to make a good impression.

A nice blouse and slacks will do. Add a pop of color with your shoes and bag and you’re good to go. Dresses are also a really good idea, pair it with a blazer and you have yourself a whole look.

Modesty is the best policy:

At a professional conference or any professional event, dress modestly. Stay away from short skirts, extremely tight clothing, and unflattering mid-drifts. Don’t allow your cleavage to be a distraction and make sure your outfit always presents a respectful nature.

Also, be well groomed. Ensure that your hair is together, your nails are clean, and you smell good. All of this goes into your overall appearance and helps to make that good first impression.

If you haven’t already, purchase your tickets here for the 2023 Women of Project Management Conference! If you have a date that is not attending the conference but wants to attend the Black Tie Awards Gala, tickets can be purchased here! The attire for the gala is obviously black tie and glam! Can’t wait to see you all there!
