And as you move up in your career, you’ll notice that many positions require some level of project management knowledge. Here’s why: For organizations to succeed and continue to scale and achieve organizational objectives, they have to be able to identify, track, and execute projects effectively.
In essence, if you’ve decided to pursue a career in project management, you’ve made an excellent choice as your skills will prove to be extremely valuable and will also transcend industries.

It’s important to note that your overall professional experience is a factor when looking for an entry level project management role. A more experienced professional may want to pursue the Assistant Project Manager or Project Manager role, while a less experienced person may pursue a Project Assistant or similar role.

Project Administrator
If you’re starting out with zero experience, the Project Administrator role is the best. In this role, you’ll typically handle more administrative tasks like organizing paperwork, keeping good project records and sending correspondence when necessary.
This is a great opportunity to get a feel of how projects are organized and what kind of documentation is required.
Project Coordinator
If you’re a little more experienced and feel comfortable with communicating with internal and external stakeholders, this role is great. A Project Coordinator typically works on organizing project activities and monitoring tasks to ensure they are on track and within budget.
This requires a great deal of communication, confidence and project knowledge. Coordinators also have a hand in maintaining project documents and keeping the project organized.

Junior Project Manager
As a Junior Project Manager, your responsibilities increase significantly. You’ll be involved in the planning, monitoring and sometimes budgeting of project tasks.
You’re still in the learning phase but your contributions to the project are more managerial than administrative. This role is great for someone who has some project experience and wants to move into a Project Manager role.
Project Specialist
A Project Specialist is someone who has specialized skills and/or expertise on a specific area of the project. They may not have extensive knowledge of the details of the project, but they bring in-depth knowledge of a particular aspect of the project.
This role is great for someone looking to gain more project related experience.
Assistant Project Manager
APMs or Assistant Project Managers work very closely with the Project Manager. They may be responsible for managing or overseeing different parts of the project.
The APM likely has a hands-on role in planning, monitoring and executing project tasks as well as managing the project team and stakeholders.
This role is great for someone who wishes to move into the roles of project manager, Director, or PMO Lead.
