Google Project Management Certificate: What you Need to Know
A few questions that have come up several times over the past year or so are, “Is the Google Project Management Certificate worth it?”, and, “Should I get the Google PM certificate or the PMP?” and “What kind of jobs can I get with the Google PM certificate?”.
In this post, I will be answering these questions to give you a better understanding of what the certificate is and how it could add value to your career!
The Google Project Management Certificate program was created for individuals looking to get their start in project management.
It’s an entry level program designed to teach the fundamentals of project management like estimating time and budget, stakeholder communication, conducting meetings, applying Agile and Scrum and leadership skills.
The certificate is offered through Coursera and is available to anyone.
Is the Google Project Management Certificate worth it?
The short answer is absolutely yes! If you are new to the profession and want to know what project management is and get a feel of what it’s like to manage a project, this is a great course!
There are 1 million students currently enrolled in this course and thousands of 4+ star reviews.
With so many job opportunities for project professionals in the market, this course would put you on the right track to take on project work professionally.
Should I get the Google PM certificate or the PMP?
Well, it depends on where you are in your career. If you are new to project management without a few years of project management experience, the Google Project Management Certificate is best for you.
On the flip side, if you’ve been in the project management game for a while and can thoroughly demonstrate your knowledge, the PMP Certification is best for you.
The great thing about the Google Project Management Certificate is that it’s accredited by the Project Management Institute and counts as 100 training hours that can be used to satisfy the project management training requirements to take the PMP exam!
What kind of jobs can I get with the Google PM certificate?
The options are endless depending on the level you are professionally. As an entry level employee, this certificate could get you a role as Project Coordinator, Project Administrator, or even a Project Manager depending on the company and industry.
If you’re a mid-level employee, you could transition into a Project Analyst. Project Coordinator, Project Lead, or Project Manager.
Lastly, for a more senior level employee, this certificate could help to transition you into a Project Manager or Project Lead role quickly as you already have plenty of professional experience likely covering many domains and functions and have implemented project management in one way or another.
