Harnessing the Power of Mentorship for Project Management Professionals

To really harness the power of mentorship, you must be open-minded, willing, and ready to engage with others actively. The purpose of a mentor is to provide guidance and inspiration by showing and sharing their wisdom and experience in their personal and/or professional life. And as Black women and women of color in the project management industry, it’s so important that we continue to share knowledge and be open to learning new things from our peers. We learned at the first annual Women of Project Management Conference how much we needed to lean on each other for support as we navigate entrepreneurship and corporate America as project managers.

The mentorship speed dating session at the 2022 Women of Project Management Conference was a huge success! One thing that is apparent in the WOPM community overall, is the need and appreciation of having connections with women of color in the same profession. Inside the WOPM membership, we celebrate each other and collaborate on different project management topics.

This week, we celebrated Rosalin Walcott, owner of Olivienne Spencer Consulting for teaming up with the Environmental Protection Agency, the City of Omaha, and the Greater Omaha Chamber of Commerce on EPAs Superfund Job Training Initiative. Rosalin facilitated the entire project!

By joining the Women of Project Management membership, you instantly gain access to a network of driven women just like Rosalin. And if you’re not ready to commit to a membership, it’s only right that you join us for the 2023 Women of Project Management Conference where members and non-members are welcome to participate in all conference activities including the mentorship speed dating. It’s an experience like no other!

Mentorship is truly the gift that keeps on giving and should be implemented throughout your professional journey. Set clear goals, be open to receiving honest feedback, and be willing to also share your knowledge with others.
