If you’re interested in construction project manager jobs, you’ve come to the right place! I’ve worked in construction project management for over 5 years and I absolutely loved it!

There are many roles and responsibilities that are needed to produce a successful construction project including the Construction Project Manager. Here are a few additional roles that are also necessary to run a successful construction project:

• Project Engineer

• Assistant Project Manager

• Project Coordinator

• Administrative Assistant

• Designer/Architect 

• Estimator

And then you have the various trades that are a part of the actual construction of the project. Having previous experience in any of these professions gives you a competitive edge of landing construction project manager jobs.

Since men currently dominate the industry, that leaves a lot of room for women to come in and do well in the role. Below, Monica gives a bit of her day in the life of a construction project manager.  

Construction Project Manager Jobs: Landing a Role

The role of a construction project manager is very important as they are the ones who understand the mechanics of managing construction projects in and out and have the ability to direct specialized trades and delegate task tracking and scheduling as needed.

They are also usually present several times a week monitoring the construction site to ensure the project is being built to the specifications and code. 

To land a role, it’s important that you have some technical knowledge and formal training. You can pursue education in one of the following areas:

• Construction Management 

• Civil Engineering

• Project Management

• Architecture

Technical knowledge includes understanding how to read and interpret blueprints and building specifications. 

Although experience is king, having some formal training to pair with it will always put you ahead of the game. Job boards like LinkedIn, Indeed, and Zip Recruiter are great places to look for construction project manager jobs.

There’s also a job board inside of the WOPM membership! It’s also really good to go directly to construction companies in your area to see if they have openings for a construction project manager.

Either way, this is a very lucrative profession and well worth the effort of pursuing.
